Concrete Sealer
While no one can deny that concrete is some pretty tough building materials, it nonetheless can become damage by the surrounding environment especially water. Water’s funny in that it doesn’t seem to do much damage, but just like the grand canyon, over time a little bit of water can make a huge impact. For construction companies and homeowners, rain and general moisture can ruin a perfectly good concrete fixture, so it’s necessary to use concrete sealer to lengthen the life and improve the look of any concrete.
These sealers are fortunately cheap and easy to apply to nearly any concrete, whether it’s part of a building or as part of a sidewalk or driveway. Many of these can be easily applied using a sprayer found at most hardware stores.
Water-based sealants are a great choice in general, but also for the environmentally conscious. Though sealants will stick strongly to any concrete they are applied to, eventually they will start to be worn off by rainwater and other elements. If you are using a petroleum or other chemically based sealant, these harsh chemicals can end up in the local ecosystem causing damage to it.
Water-based seals also dry faster, but they aren’t as strong as other that use plastics. It’s important to way efficiency with longevity when deciding between these two products in addition to environmental concerns. If an area has a heavy amount of traffic, water-based seals will quickly wear away, requiring repeated applications.
Regardless of which you choose, these products will protect your concrete from chemical, water, and even physical damage.
